The Baby Industry

Nowadays, in India, we see a lot of progress in the amount of evolution in the baby/kids world, quite literally. They have stores, playschools, day-care centers, restaurants with kid’s area etc., which is quite a boon to parents who get hassled over how to keep their ever-curious, over-active toddlers occupied...

In the retail sector, clothing, food, toys, games etc. have suddenly burst out having amazing options to choose from and it’s the variety that staggers you.

Having said all that, there is still scope for more options like play areas in malls that people frequent either for an outing/shopping. Play areas provide a great relief for parents as the children get a fair share of recreation and parents can do their shopping without being nagged constantly.

Also, Sathyam cinemas has a day care called Magic Hat that children and parents love, Parents get to watch the movie peacefully, and the children, well, they have tremendous fun with the games and play areas available there. More and more Cine complexes should think of these options to attract crowds ‘coz that can be a major parent-puller!!

Food sector now has all that children now relish, they could also focus more on healthy food made to taste and look good so that children gobble it up and parents are rest assured that the required nutrients are taken in. For e.g.: Kellogg’s chocos is a great source of calcium and the mini packet for 10/- is nominal and the child is able to finish that quantity. Similarly they could have crackers made of whole-wheat with vegetable/fruit flavors, which has all the vitamins and minerals. Milk, another great necessity, could be made more appealing by having a variety of flavors and also the packaging made kid-friendly like tetra-pack.

But certainly one thing for sure, the baby/children sector has tremendous growth opportunity in our country. Top companies like Reliance, Hindustan Unilever etc could consider a one-stop shop with all the things required for a baby/toddler/teen ranging from nursery essentials, clothes, food, toys, games, art, craft, media etc. They could also have story-reading sessions/plays etc to attract young kids, also make them participate, which could be such a confidence booster.

Stores like this all-over India are bound to be an instant-hit. Having a play area could work wonders too :)

We certainly see a changing India, we may be slow, but certainly our foundations are very strong for whatever we want to build. Awareness is spreading not only to metros but also to villages. As a great nation in the road to being a global super-power, we as its citizens certainly could and should strive more to achieve the same in the near future.
